Mission Statement and Policy for Continuing Education
Dermasculpture mission statement: To provide the
highest possible quality professional continuing education in the field of
massage/bodywork and to make cellulite massage a viable, affordable treatment
for women who want to address this problem in a healthy way
Dermasculpture philosophy of education is to present a course that is accessible
to the professional massage therapist. I value an educational style that is
interactive, practical, comprehensive, and informative and especially relevant
in today’s society. Greater awareness and demand by women for cellulite massage
has increased dramatically over the past decade. Adding competency in this
technique to the repertoire of a massage therapist enhances her/his ability to
meet the needs and requests of a woman who want to improve her appearance in a
healthy way. It will also help the therapist become more viable in an
increasingly competitive profession. The determination to present the
Dermasculpture Cellulite Massage course comes about because of the 26+ years of
experience in doing this massage. I, Pat Parkinson, develop the curriculum,
teach the course, measure the outcomes, keep the records and determine when and
if revisions in the course content are needed. Advertising of educational
offerings is published on my web site, www.dermasculpture.com, at organizations
that are interested in offering Dermasculpture cellulite massage classes to
their massage therapists, and from time to time in massage magazines, journals
and periodicals. People are registered online and/or by mail with a
non-refundable deposit of $100. The total fee for the class is $325/student,
unless other arrangements have been made. For online classes students must
complete the course within 3 months from the time the course is purchased.
Pre-requisite to receive CEU's for the course is a license in massage therapy or
having graduated from a 500 hour school, and be physically able to do the work.
Participants will be able to complete a half-hour cellulite massage at the end
of the class.
Cancellations will be accepted up to one (1) week prior to the class, and
refunds will be sent out within two (2) weeks after the date of the class; for
online correspondence course the cancellation must be within 72 hours of the
purchase of the course.
Accommodations for people with disabilities will depend on their needs, what
accommodations they had while in school, or what accommodations they feel they
need for this educational offering. Reasonable accommodations will be made as
required by the ADA, except where it would cause an undue burden. For example, a
visually impaired person would be in the first group of trainees so that they
can feel the massage for themselves, if that is acceptable to them. A hearing
impaired person would be invited to sit in the front of the room would be
addresses directly, or if the person is profoundly deaf I may suggest they bring
a signer or I may call the local association for the deaf and ask if they can
assist in any way. Further, I do not discriminate on the basis of race, color,
religion, sex, or national origin. But because cellulite is a female condition,
male students are asked to provide a substitute when it is his turn to receive
the massage in class, so his partner will be able to work on a woman.
Instructor
and Class Evaluations: All evaluations will be retained for at least four years
and, at the end of that time, a thorough review and analysis will be done.
Adjustments in the curriculum and delivery will be reviewed on a continuous
basis, as needed, and at the end of 4 years. All student records and transcripts
will be maintained in a locked file cabinet for at least 4years. They will be
reproduced only at the request of the student for a fee.
